With this change, we are following the recommendation of the tourism association to which both stage towns belong. An unstable mountain slope on the road between Bormio and Santa Caterina has been preoccupying geologists and authorities for years and led to a road closure for several months during the summer of 2019 and had also affected the third stage of the TOUR Transalp 2019.

This summer the road was open, but currently again there is a night-time closure, showing that the situation still holds planning uncertainties, which we as organizers want to anticipate early on.

We could have easily rerouted the Transalp route itself, regardless of the geological situation. However, it would not be  possible to maintain reasonable logistics, such as luggage transport, if the road was closed.

As a result, the routes of stages 2 and 3 will change, but won`t lose any of its fun, quite the opposite: the wild and original character of the 2021 route will even be underlined.
